I'm assuming that this Peter is Alice Long's husband and therefore my wife's great grandfather. He was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary in the early 1900s, based in Co.Monaghan (where some of his family were born). He apparently resigned from the RIC and went to live in Belfast sometime before 1911. This move was possibly connected to the death of his adoptive "father-in-law" Jeremiah Long, as Jeremiah's wife, Mary was recorded living with Peter and his wife Alice in Belfast in 1911. Peter and Mary's children were Kathleen, Josephine, Winne, Lily, Alice, Malachy, Thomas, Patrick and Peter. Kathleen (d. 1968) was my wife's grandmother. She married a Michael O'Leary, a native of Blarney in Co. Cork.

Apologies - I should have referred to "Peter and Alice's" children, not Peter and Mary's in the post above.
